Constitution Day

Today is the day the Constitution was completed and signed. What an important day in our history. V has learned about the Constitution over the last couple of weeks and she got to make a lap book about it today. (She loves making lap books). This one focused on the Constitution. She also learned about Dolley Madison, James Madison's wife. What an amazing woman. Women are not mentioned a lot in history, but she is known as a very influential woman  before, during and after the war 1812.

V made her first lap book today. It was a lot of fun, she really enjoyed it. We chose a topic that she knew about already, for our first one, so that it would go smoothly. I think it went pretty well. She liked it!

Science Saturday

Daddy woke the kids up with a surprise. He was working in the garage when he came upon a praying mantis. He caught it and came in and woke the kids for their impromptu science lesson. Both kids were awake and ready to learn in no time. We studied it with our magnifying glasses and watched it move. 

We then went outside and released it on the tree trunk. It wouldn't come out on it's own we had to help it. It moved pretty quick once it was out of the jar. The kids were fascinated.

We got some cool close-up pictures of it. They are very interesting looking insects.

Later that morning daddy came back in and said he had discovered eggs on the side of the house. We all headed out again. He set up the ladder and we examined those eggs with our magnifying glasses.

Family Olympic Games

We had a small unit on the Olympics because of the Summer Olympics held in London. It was a lot of fun and the kids want to do it again. Here are some pictures of our day.

Daddy made a family Olympic flag. He made a  "W" with each of our names in the the colored parts. Then three leaves on a vine above which represent the 3 babies we lost. I think it was a very sweet and creative idea. Thanks honey!
